HISTORICAL
The Romanian Orthodox Parish "Holy Glorious Demetrios the Myrrh-gusher" in Loughton - London IX is part of the Romanian Orthodox Archdiocese of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and was established out of the desire of the Romanian faithful in this area of London to have a permanent place of prayer, communion and preservation of Orthodox identity.
The parish has as its patron the Holy Great Martyr Demetrius, Myrrh-gusher, confessor of the faith and quick helper of those who call upon him in prayer. This patron saint expresses the community's desire to place itself under the protection of a saint known for the strength of confession and for the gift of the outpouring of grace.
Around the ministry of the parish priest, Fr. Serghei Botizatu, the parish community gradually established itself as a space of lively prayer, mutual support and confession of the Orthodox faith in the diaspora. Through the celebration of the Holy Liturgy, the Holy Sacraments and the other services ordained by the Church, the parish fulfills its mission of gathering the faithful around Christ and cultivating the spiritual life.
The parish also frequently develops catechetical, cultural and philanthropic activities, aimed at supporting families, children and young people, as well as all those in need. In the context of life in the diaspora, the parish community represents a benchmark of spiritual and identity stability for the Romanians of Loughton and the surrounding area.
This text is provisional and will be completed as concrete historical data regarding the establishment of the parish, the stages of its development and significant moments in the life of the community are integrated....
